Saison Sunday Listening Session

Curated Playlist:

Sunday Op. #03 — the sound of music composed by Florence Beatrice Price.

Arranged as a musical adaptation that embodies faith as a source of solace during times of adversity. Price compositions reflect her own joyful, romantic and spiritual idioms with painfully deep Southern roots. Her sound has a cultural source while remaining very American. I am amazed by the transcendence. The resilience found in her music provides a future hope.

This playlist comes as part two of an exploration from the musical hubris of Black Excellence. I am standing near still waters that are healing. Listening to ancestral jazz from the souls of folks who seek greater purpose. The compositions are less worldly and so spiritual with intent.

"Last year I almost died" – a figure of speech concerning a hangover post American Superbowl shenanigans. I awakened with the fog, exhausted, disoriented, and feeling empty. "Where are you?" called the shadows of my conscious. "I am in a safe place" – I remember the journey back. Finding myself. My body weak and nervous system flickering on the brink of moral collapse. This year has been a safe year with less distractions, more prayer, less guilt, and more repentance. Due time at the altar of a community church. The entrance banner reads "Find Freedom".

Scanning quick response invitation to a Super Bowl gathering in the sanctuary.

I joined the church quickly. The people are nice with authentic yet prompted celebrations of joy. Living grounded less nomadic with regular church involvement has been a blessing. I've arrived from the Witness Protection Program a running joke among the brothers because my engagement is limited. I am private not here to champion vulnerability but seeking transformation. This version of myself is new to me. I desire authentic connection in the spirit. The kind you seek without God bombing conversation. Change for me has been in the whisper. The words of the Bible come alive in quite study hours. My heart is ready. A sermon series titled Homecoming helped me to unpack memorized scripture.

Releasing guilt through surrender. Game night is tonight. I am expecting Christian outreach with a side of pretense. "We are broadcasting the football game but not the halftime show." Mrs. Jackson has cluctched her pearls. The room. This sanctum has been prayed over and sanctified! The convicted are expected to pretend America places no pride in the Superbowl Halftime Show. "Why not?" raises a voice in the back.

The kickoff continues we are into the first quarter. My defenses are up. I know judgement seems meek. However, scorn from the righteous is enough for accusation to erupt in persecution. I am the lost son in this congreation. My plan is active. I've plotted an exit at halftime. America has been divided into additional subparts each dimension containing the prayers of the self-righteous. My current awareness has no authority for Biblical discussion. Pretense is my bias. I've decided to seek purpose with believers who live under the weight of monocultural supremacy. I identify as a minority with a personal accountability honoring the community.

I am happy. The decision to broadcast the halftime show is made with reasonable conviction. We are watching the full program from advertising to artificial visualization. My divisive inner spirit is score keeping. We humans are being socially programed. We are at a time where political polarization is louder than words. Our youth the next generation is forced into isolation the mind consumes the subverted digital domain. I too am convicted yet glad the decision was made to broadcast on sacred ground. I feel safe with spiritual protection the waters of life are calmer. Coming Ashore. We are landing at hope city with joy and praise for revival. The Superbowl broadcast a glitch in the matrix revealing a guiding light. The playlist below celebrates Black History Month with traditional jazz music. Also cue Marching on Water a playlist seeking transformation published this time last year. Pour a beverage and enjoy both listening sessions.

Marching On Water — A melodic experimental jazz journey with glimpses of soul.

This playlist explores the living inheritance of Black cultural sound. Listen closely. The songs speak consciously of a shared expression using touches of traditional music. I've integrated tunes offering a wealth of wisdom to transcend the burden of social constraint. The energy is highly spiritual a walk with elder musicians encouraging Black American hubris. We march on celebrating our birthright. We teach the next generation our people are continuously blessed.
